THE HISTORY
"Lafayette Methodist Episcopal Church, Pacific Avenue, Jersey City, N.J.," circa-1917 postcard view.
The hulking presence of the Lafayette M.E. Church building — with its dark-red, pressed-brick and cut-brownstone veneer, imposing bell towers, and Gothic windows — has been unmistakable in the Lafayette district of Jersey City since its dedication in 1885.
Developer Mark Schwartz, working with local architecture firm Devino Aiello and Associates (DA+A), intends to keep this visual architectural magnetism intact as he moves forward with The Lafayette House project. Courtesy of The Leon Yost Collection.
