THE NEIGHBORHOOD

WELCOME TO

BERGEN LAFAYETTE

Well situated in an appealing neighborhood that’s certainly no longer a “hidden gem,” Lafayette House is close to all that Bergen-Lafayette has to offer.

Tranquil tree-lined streets, surrounded by brownstones, exude neighborhood charm. Great dining and shopping are just minutes away as are the parks, local hotspots and public transportation.

THE PARKS

Liberty State Park, one of New Jersey’s most prominent parks, beckons with a glorious unobstructed view of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan. It’s at your doorstep, just a few blocks away. You might even consider it as your backyard! Plus, it’s connected to Ellis Island by ferry.

A delightful place for all ages, Liberty State Park features ample grassy areas to enjoy a barbecue or picnic, with a glorious two-mile riverside promenade.

Enjoy multiple playgrounds, even a giant sailing ship with a prow and lookout post and rock-climbing walls. Each season brings new happenings to engage visitors, and, of course, the recently expanded Liberty Science Center is always a mainstay attraction. Lafayette Park is even closer with its neighborhood playground, ballfield and pool.

THE DINING SCENE

The dining scene here continues to grow and expand. From casual cafes to acclaimed fine dining establishments, flavors and tastes converge.

Go-to spots not to be missed include Pinwheel Garden Dumpling and Noodle Bar, a charming eatery with repurposed furnishings plating inventive dishes featuring East Asian influences, with an emphasis on seasonal organic produce; Café Lafayette, a friendly, low-key café serving up delicious drinks and comfort food, including Korean-inspired creations to round out the menu, with breakfast served all day; Mordi’s Sandwich Shop, a cozy neighborhood staple beloved for their Israeli-inspired creations: hand-pounded crispy schnitzel, mouth-watering specialty sandwiches and burgers, flavorful pitas and salads, house-made sauces, and generous portions; Harry’s Daughter, a lively Caribbean gastropub that elevates the flavors of home-cooked Caribbean cuisine with creative craft cocktails in a tropical space; also Plant Base, a zero-waste vegan market that’s stocked with an assortment of items to nourish body and soul, along with a tantalizing array of prepared foods; The Grind, a popular coffee joint, noted for its superb coffee, and, of course, pastries; and Corgi Spirits, Jersey City’s first (and only) distillery, along Liberty State Park’s backroads, where you can enjoy craft cocktails in a speakeasy-style atmosphere with British flair.

THE TRANSPORTATION

Easy access to Manhattan and elsewhere is conveniently accessible from the Grove Street Path Station or at Exchange Place.

The Liberty State Park Light Rail Station, close by, can take you to Exchange Place directly, with trains departing every 10 minutes or so; other transit options include Journal Square Transportation Center, with PATH train service into both Lower and Midtown Manhattan. The Transportation Center’s bus station provides bus service into New York City and many locations, including Newark Liberty International Airport.
